A walking holiday in the Dolomites

A journey of the senses in the Italian Alps

The name of the Val d'Ega valley comes from the water (‘ega’ in Ladin) that has shaped the valley. The prehistoric forces have left their mark on the rocks, mountain peaks and alpine meadows that make the area so irresistible for nature lovers and hiking fans today. A walking holiday in the Dolomites of Val d'Ega is a delight for all your senses. If you’re hiking in the Dolomites and wondering where to stay, Moseralm Dolomiti Spa Resort, 4-star hiking and wellness hotel, is your best bet and the perfect opportunity to discover the most beautiful secret spots in Val d'Ega:
Fragrant experience
Why don’t you take a deep breath when you get out of the car at Moseralm Dolomiti Spa Resort: out with the city air and in with the mountain air! The air at altitude is not only less polluted, but also trains your heart and circulation. In addition, a veritable bouquet of scents opens up to you on your hiking holiday in South Tyrol, from resins and terpenes in the forest to the flowers and blossoms of the alpine meadows.

Our tip: family circular hike to the Frinwiesen meadows
This hike starts directly at our hotel and leads to the lush Frinwiesen meadows, which offer a fantastic 360° view of the Latemar, Catinaccio and Sciliar mountains. On the way back, you will pass the Ochsenhütte mountain hut, where you can taste the region's best specialties. The only thing missing after that will be a well-earned rest in our wellness area...

Culinary delights
A day in the mountains is always a day to savour as well! While some hikers prefer to unpack their rucksack meals on lonely summits, others prefer a sociable stop-off even at high altitude. On your walking vacation in Italy, you will come across inviting mountain inns where the local hosts will serve you typical, tasty and refreshing food. Toast the success of your hike with your companions and enjoy the view from the sunny terraces.

Our tip: walking tour to the Messnerjoch mountain hut
On this family-friendly hike, which takes less than two hours, you can expect fabulous views of the South Tyrolean mountains! Once you arrive at the hut, you will be spoilt with regional dishes made from home-grown ingredients. Their dumplings, which have been enjoyed in many variations in South Tyrol for almost a thousand years, are particularly well-known, as are the seasonal delicacies and homemade cakes on the mountain hut. Enjoy the good side of life during your trekking holiday in Italy!

Sound therapy
Some would say that the most beautiful thing you can hear in the mountains is the silence. But if you listen carefully, you will realise that it is never completely silent in the mountains. You can hear the gentle rustle of leaves, the soft lapping of water or the nostalgic ringing of cowbells. Take your hike as an opportunity to listen carefully.

Our tip: circular hike to the Latemar rock labyrinth
If you are planning a slightly longer hike, this is the right thing for you! It takes a good three and a half hours to cross a suspension bridge, walk past the turquoise-blue Lake Carezza, through the Latemar forest, across the Latemar rock labyrinth, to the Eggental Mountain Cinema viewpoint on the Latemar meadows and finally even over the Carezza Pass. A great opportunity to put your headphones aside and immerse yourself in the sounds of nature!

A gentle touch
Try exploring your surroundings with your sense of touch during your walking holiday in the Dolomites: the cool earth, the soft grass, the rough bark of the trees or... the fluffy fur of some of the Dolomite inhabitants!

Our tip: hike to Häusler Sam with petting zoo and playground
The ideal hiking destination to relax and discover! After about an hour's walk from Hotel Bewaller in Obereggen, you will reach the Häusler Sam alpine inn, where young (and older) guests can enjoy not only regional dishes, but also the petting zoo and forest playground. The difference in altitude is a comfortable 95 metres, but you will be rewarded with wonderful scenic impressions!

A feast for the eyes
The Dolomites are one of the most photographed sights in South Tyrol. The unique limestone mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009, were once at the bottom of a prehistoric ocean - fossil finds still bear witness to this! The bizarre rock formations with their clearly demarcated rock layers, which reveal different stages of erosion, are visible from afar. At sunset, the white rocks glow in intense shades of red (the so-called Enrosadira).

Our tip: hike around Lake Carezza
Not far from our hiking hotel in the Dolomites lies one of the most beautiful lakes in the Alpine region. The bright green-blue colour of Lake Carezza has inspired many legends - one of which has to do with the nymph statue at its bottom, which is visible when the water level is low. The jagged Latemar massif, which rises steeply in the background, makes for a truly captivating sight. The circular route around the lake takes around 30 minutes and covers 130 metres in altitude. Thanks to our distance of only 20 minutes to the lake, you can comfortably start the route at Moseralm and complete it in about 45 minutes.

The 6th sense
Almost all ancient cultures believe in the influence of the stars on human life. But even those who are not a fan of astrology cannot deny the importance of the sun, moon and stars for life on earth: the sun makes all life possible through its light and warmth, while the celestial bodies visible at night have always served as a guide for humans and animals.

Our tip: Planet Path at Collepietra
The Planet Path is a moderately difficult circular hike where hikers pass individual stations dedicated to the planets of our solar system. This is depicted true to scale at a ratio of 1:1 billion. The starting point of the hike, the Star Village of San Valentino in Campo, is easily accessible by car or public transport. Over a distance of just under 10 kilometres, a good 260 metres in altitude are covered in around 3 hours.
