Lake Carezza and Latemar massif
Lake Carezza, located just a few minutes from our hideaway, is one of the best places for photographing the Dolomites. This small mountain lake sits at around 1,520 metres in the Latemar forest near Welschnofen and is famous for its emerald-green water, fed by underground springs. On calm days, the Latemar range is reflected perfectly in the clear surface, creating almost fairy-tale-like mirror effects that make this lake truly unique. Lake Carezza shows its most intense colours especially in the early morning and late evening, when soft light sets the water aglow. It’s no surprise that it is considered one of the best places in the Dolomites for mountain images. The short circular path around the lake gives you the opportunity to capture this remarkable natural gem from different perspectives.
Alpe di Siusi and Sassolungo
The largest high Alpine pasture in Europe, framed by the impressive rock formations of the Dolomites, captivates with its extraordinary openness and a landscape whose tranquility immediately touches you. Gentle Alpine meadows, small huts, and wide, rolling fields open up to reveal a direct view of the striking Sassolungo peak, an impressive backdrop that enhances every shot. If you want to photograph the Dolomites, you can’t skip this one! The alpine pasture is especially enchanting when the light is low: in the early morning hours or shortly before sunset, warm tones create an almost kitschy atmosphere, perfect for classic Dolomite mountain images. With easily accessible paths and varied topography, the area allows you to experiment with numerous perspectives and capture truly impressive compositions.
Three peaks of Lavaredo
Perched above the Upper Pustertal Valley, on the border of South Tyrol, the Tre Cime rise like three majestic towers of rock that have long captivated photographers and mountain enthusiasts alike. The constant interplay of light and shadow transforms their shapes throughout the day, making this area one of the most iconic Dolomites photo spots. Particularly fascinating are the views around Rifugio Locatelli, where the rock faces seem almost within arm’s reach, creating ideal conditions for capturing uniquely striking photos of the Dolomites. As you follow the path that circles the rock towers, new viewpoints open up with every step, each worthy of being immortalized.
Lago di Braies
Set peacefully in the Braies Valley, high up at around 1,500 metres, Lago di Braies lies like a quiet treasure between towering rock walls and dense forest. Its turquoise water, dominated by the mighty Croda del Becco peak, creates a backdrop that immediately moves you and invites you to pause – a place considered one of the most atmospheric Dolomites photo spots.
Along the circular path around the lake, magical perspectives open up again and again – sometimes calm and smooth, sometimes dramatic and flooded with light. Anyone exploring here will inevitably feel inspired to photograph the Dolomites, as the lake reveals new motifs with every step, showing more than one can ever capture.
